Cyber Defense Concerns in Global Security The cyber domain crosses both physical and logical borders across the globe. No longer is every aspect of a domain clearly part of a single nation. Occurrences within cyberspace has far reaching effects. 15 million T-Mobile customer’s data stolen via Experian server compromise, massive cyberattacks on Estonia and Georgia networks (2007 and 2008 respectively), and over $1 trillion reportedly lost due to cybercrime. These are just a few concerns facing global and state level security demonstrating significant concern and requirement for action. Criminal syndicates as well as other non-state and state actors use cyberspace to conduct illegal activities. These three concerns are the leading factors for cyber defense in global security. Cybercrime is on the rise across the globe as criminal organizations and likeminded actors gain easy access to skilled professionals and/or affordable commercial/free software. This type of crime is alluring and extremely lucrative due to low physical risk and very high rewards (Heickero, 2013). Another aspect of cybercrime is the theft of Intellectual Property (IP) and trade secrets. A great example of the theft of IP and impact is the study of CISCO versus Huawei routers and the growing takeover by China due to IP/Trade secret gains (Demchak, 2011). Though, the severity of IP is difficult to articulate due to the various intangible losses. A McAfee study shows that such crime plays a significant factor in â€Å"trade balances, national income, and jobs† which drastically impacts economic security (McAfee, 2014). States must also deal with cyber espionage, which is one of the most aggressive activities in cyberspace. Cyber espionage relates to both cybercrime and cyber warfare. Similar to the criminal theft of IP and trade secrets, cyber espionage is illicit access to confidential information held by government or other organizations. The main objective of this paper is to evaluate the various aspect of strategic management plan in the perspective of growth and development. This plan must be concerned with provided case of Kwik Save supermarket in the United Kingdom. This paper enables to explain the portals analysis of Kwik Save supermarket. Kwik Save is retail or groceries sector organization which is founded by Albert Gubay. Paul Nikklas was director from 2006-2007. External analysis This chapter is evaluated the porters five forces analysis in the context of Kwik Save Group. These porters five forces are classified in five parts that are described below: Threat of new entrants: The UK grocery market, especially Swik Save is dominated by some competitors such as Sainsburys, Tesco, Safeway and Asda that dominate the 70 percent of market share. From last 30 years, grocery market transformed into the supermarket business. The economies of scale, capital requirement in the initial stage, customer or supply loyalty and experience are the main barriers for any new entries. Bargaining power of customers: These force presents the customer power in the business that customer is the kind of market. In the other words, customer is the wholesale of the market. So, we need to fulfill the customer desires or needs. If customer will be satisfied then it will come again and buy the new product from your stores. Threat of substitutes: It is able to reduce the demand for a specific product. There is lot of threat to switching the alternatives product. Swik Save is facing lot of challenges by the substitute product. Their closest competitor is providing same product in the cheaper price as compare to their own products. Bargaining power of competitors: Swik Save Supermarket competitor is providing very cheap product as compare to own product so we need to produce more quality product in cheaper price. Sainsbury, Asda and Tesco are the main competitor of it that is big threats how to stable our company between the strongest competitors because they produces quality product with lower price. Kwik Save strategies to increase their product variety as compare to their competitor because Sainsbury has more than 15000 products. Weakness: The main weak of the Kwik Save strategy is to that their product havent any brand image because their competitor such as Adsa and Sainsbury are very famous brand in grocery or supermarket sector. (Koontz 2010) Strength: The strength of the Kwik Save strategy is to that it is much popularized store in the UK zone. People like their product or services that raise their sales volume and profit margin. SAF criteria: It is very important in the criteria that affect the Kwik Save growth and development. It is also helpful in the strategy evaluation of Kwik Save Company. Kwik Save have lot of competitor such as Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury so Kwik Save need to adopt new product variety which is differ from their competitor that raise their brand image. The Value of Qualitative Research George Hinton SOC333: Research Methods Instructor: Risa Garelick 5/8/17 The intent of qualitative research is that of addressing questions relative to development of comprehension where humans' lives and social worlds are concerned by/through dimensions of meaning and experiences (2002). The key to good qualitative research is whether the subjective actions, meanings, and social contexts of the research participants are highlighted, as comprehended by them (2002). What is qualitative research? The term/word qualitative implies emphasis on definitions, traits, and methodologies that aren't looked at on an experimental level or possibly measured in terms of amount, quantity, frequency, or intensity (Denzin & Lincoln, 2000). Many behavioral and social scientists consider qualitative inquiry modes of research to be just as much viewpoint on approaching investigative research problems as it is a method (Denzin 2000). The three key elements that define a qualitative research study are: design, collection of data, and analysis. Each of these take on applied forms in the investigation of a research problem. The design of qualitative research may be naturalistic, emergent, or purposeful. The naturalistic design has a lack of predetermined restrictions concerning findings as the researcher is open to whatever it comes, how it comes. Simply stated, naturalistic references study of real-world scenarios as they naturally unfold. Emergent design refers to the acceptance of adapting the question as comprehension deepens and circumstances change; the researcher pursues new discovery paths as they unveil themselves. The purposeful design presents cases for research/examination because they are rich in information and shed light in terms of interest in the phenomenon/phenomena. These include: people, communities, cultures, events, and critical incidences. Collection of data falls into the categories of data, personal experience and engagement, empathic neutrality, and dynamic systems. With data, observations produce a detailed and deep comprehension by means of interviews capturing personal views from direct quotes or carefully conducted case studies as well as material culture review. Empathic neutrality involves mindfulness of being neutral rather than judgmental by displaying awareness, openness, respect, responsiveness, and sensitivity while working with study respondents in order to gain vicarious understanding. Dynamic systems involve the researcher being actively aware to system and situational dynamics. Attention to process is maintained and assumption is held that change is ongoing, whether the focal point, is an individual person, place, or culture as a whole. The third and final of the key elements of qualitative research is the analysis. The analysis has five types: 1. unique case orientation 2.inductive analysis 3.holistic perspective 4.context sensitive, 5.voice, perspective, and reflexivity. The unique case orientation holds the assumption that every case is unique and special. It entails an initial analysis which captures particulars of the case and a cross analysis which comes after, depending upon the case study quality. Inductive analysis starts with exploration and confirmation of findings. It is immersed in details and data specifics in order to uncover tendencies and relationships. Rather than following rules, inductive analysis is led by analytical principles. The holistic perspective is centered on the entire phenomenon being relative to complicated correlations and system dynamics which are unable to be minimized in any capacity to linear, cause and effect relationships and/or few discrete variables. The context sensitive analysis places findings in a social, historical, and temporal context. The researcher is careful and leery of the potential meaningfulness of generalizations by/through time and space. Emphasis is placed upon careful comparative analyses of cases as well as extrapolating patterns for potential adaptation and transferability in/of new environments. Lastly, the analysis of voice, perspective, and reflexivity is one in which the qualitative methodologist owns and is reflective about his/her own voice as well as his/her perspective. Authenticity and trust is demonstrated by a credible voice. Total neutrality is impossible and pure subjectivity undermines credibility. The focus of the researcher reflects a balance between understanding and depicting the world genuinely in its entire complexity and of being self-analytical, conscious politically, and reflexive in consciousness. Oracle Corporation Essay The Central Intelligence Agency had commissioned the project to build a commercial database management system for IBM mainframe computers and code-named it Oracle. Software Development Laboratories took the Oracle name in 1982. After completion of the project, Ellison, Miner, Oates, and Scott had a vision of developing and distributing their database software as a profitable business opportunity. From 1982 to 1986, Oracle had achieved 100% growth. On March 15th, 1986, Oracle went public, one day after Microsoft’s initial public offering. From 1986 to 1989, revenues skyrocketed from $55 million to $584 million, making it one of the largest independent software companies in the world, employing over 4,000 people in 24 countries. The Oracle Corporation’s objective of becoming a profitable database software company had been achieved. Market and industry growth continued until the third quarter of 1990. Oracle suffered a $15 million dollar loss on $240 million in revenues. Between 1988 and 1991, operating margins had plummeted from 23 to 3 percent. During this time, the company’s stock value also fell. Oracle responded by letting go of 400 employees in the United States and reorganizing its senior management team. This business problem was the direct result of something the company simply overlooked. As the company was focusing all of its energies on growth during the late 1980’s, they were losing sight of their internal operations and infrastructure. They also planned their expenses based on the 100% annual growth rate they experienced in the prior years, causing them to lose money. In addition, they delayed the delivery of their latest product, which allowed the competition to draw closer to them. However, the release of their next product would see Oracle quickly rebound and turn things back around. In July of 1991, Oracle was working on a new database software that had the ability to manage text, video, audio, and other data through a set of loosely connected servers. This database software was called Oracle 7, and was one of many IT solutions that would put Oracle ahead of the competition and save the company. 996 saw database sales grow by 20 percent and then to 10 percent in 1997, the year Microsoft released its rival SQL server, which was a cheaper alternative database release with aspirations of stealing Oracle’s market share. During this time, Oracle attempted to expand beyond databases and entered into the two largest application software markets, enterprise resource planning and customer relationship management. Ellison saw this as a lucrative business opportunity, considering the fact that the ERP market was estimated at $20 billion in 1999 and projected to exceed $65 billion by 2003. The CRM market was estimated at $4 billion in 1999 and projected to exceed $16 billion by 2003. Ellison recognized that CEO’s wanted to understand profitability per costumer and to be able to detect dissatisfaction before the customer leaves. He realized that ERP and CRM software would allow CEO’s to do that by turning database information into knowledge about consumers. Ellison’s vision of internet-enabled software began to take shape in 1999 with the release of Oracle8i. It was followed by internet-enabled versions of all the company’s key software products. A key IS solution in the development of Oracle Corporation would be Oracle e-Business Suite, which would include a collection of ERP and CRM applications that automated many necessary business functions. This would be the beginning of the high impact IS solutions to follow. In June of 1999, Ellison declared that Oracle would attempt to save $1billion dollars by the end of 2000 by transforming into an e-business. Ellison then eliminated all non-e-business options from the company. This bold move was an incredible success and a brilliant IS solution to some of the company’s business problems. The changes were easy and smooth to implement. An example given in the case was that of an expense report. In the past, a sales rep would fill out an expense report and manually send it to headquarters. Now the sales rep just completes the forms on the web where the report can be tracked. Not only did this create $6 million dollars in direct savings, the reports were easier and faster to complete. This solution did not only benefit employees, but customers, too. In the past if a customer wanted to demo Oracle’s software, a sales rep had to set an appointment to do the demo in person. Now, the sales rep can gain access to the customer’s browser and, over the phone, can do the demo over the browser at Oracle. com. The shift to self-service was a very necessary and profitable solution for Oracle. They began saving millions of dollars and hours of time. Another business problem Oracle had was a lack of centralization in the business. One clever way they did this was by changing incentives for country managers. Country manager’s incentives were originally based on revenue. This was to be changed to shift their incentives to be based on margin. In the past, 97 e-mail servers existed with almost 120 databases in over 50 countries. This was dramatically reduced when Oracle gave each country CEO a choice. They could receive free e-mail through Redwood Shores or pay to service an e-mail server, which would directly impact their margin, and ultimately, their variable pay. This was a very effective IS solution to the lack of centralization problem the business had. Oracle would continue to centralize the business by pulling human resources, legal, sales administration, and marketing out of each country office and consolidating them at Redwood Shores. Oracle now had a single system that served everything. Oracle saved a lot of wasted money by centralizing its marketing department. The products were the same in every country, so the centralization made sense and was absolutely necessary. By June of 2000, Oracle had gone from 63 to 17 company websites worldwide. By August 2000, the company was down to one website, Oracle. com. This solution saved the company a lot of money that was being wasted operating multiple websites for multiple countries and confusing the brand with different languages, colors, and logos. The transformation to e-business saved Oracle a ton of money, but this wasn’t the only benefit of the move. The switch also generated marketing pull. Oracle’s customer base grew as a result of having better information about their customers’ and sales outlets. The pull strategy came to fruition by two combining factors. The story of the company’s transformation combined with the new gained credibility the company received by performing this transformation so publicly. Now instead of sales reps attempting to sell the CEO of another company their software, CEO’s were going directly to Oracle technology to transform their own businesses. This pull allowed Oracle to open an online store, as opposed to hiring more sales people to handle the increased demand. This latest IS solution, in turn, created more sales. In 1999, Oracle began streamlining its Oracle University, which supported 2500 full-time employees in 143 countries while enrolling about 500,000 students annually. These Oracle courses led to the certification of developers and programmers that the company needed to continue growth. This business solution was yet another great move designed to farm their own employees. iLearning technology was then created as a means of a continuing education extension to Oracle University’s certification process. This software would be hosted online and could be updated daily without patches. Oracle Corporation is a great example of a company who had the ability to predict the future of technology and make innovations to lead the industry. They took risks, and they paid off. Larry Ellison took a big risk when he eliminated all non-e-business elements out of his business and made the transformation to e-business, and his company was rewarded with tremendous cost savings and higher revenues. He also predicted at the end of a June 2000 press conference that the software industry would vanish and be replaced by a service industry. This remains to fully be seen, but it appears there could be truth to this. The jarring concussion, which followed, took me by suprise. I tried to get my bearings as the ground rushed up to meet me and recovered about two feet from the ground. After that near miss I climbed back to the altitude I had been at and started searching for my tormentor. I realized that I had grabbed hold of a human's hair and that he had not been happy about it. He was rubbing his head and throwing immense volumes of noise at me. Hummingbirds make mistakes just like everyone else and more than most when trying to build and protect a nest.      Ã‚   I decided that I should look elsewhere and settled on a lovely little spider web. I dove toward it, feeling the thrum of my wings and hearing the whoosh of the wind flowing past. The web glowed gold in the morning sunlight and dew drops hanging from it shone like liquid fire. A gnat flew too close and I captured it with a snap of my long tongue. Snaring a long piece of the silk,   I immediately ascended,   looking for my tree. My mate was awaiting my return, and was soon rewarded as I pulled up to the carefully camouflaged nest. I passed the silken strand over to her and left to find some food.      Ã‚   The humans are very good to us and hang tremendous reservoirs of nectar from various limbs and rafters. The containers come in all shapes and colors but they all have red bases. I headed for one of these and saw one of my rival males. He instantly attacked, chirping his anger at my intrusion. I counterattacked and we began a dogfight. Up and down, we came, zooming into space and plummeting to the ground. Although he was a willing and able opponent, I eventually wore him down, and he then left the scene. I held a precise hover as my tongue formed a tube, then I began slurping the sweet nectar from the feeder. Although I only weigh about one half of an once, I consume twice that much food every day. These days children and young people are involved in many issues in society which can/may affect their lives. Religion is all across the UK now and many children who live here have a different type of religion. Religions have different rules to others and this can affect children because of them (rules). For example if a Muslim child is friends with a child who doesn’t have a religion and that child can go out in the street or can sleep out, the child who is Muslim might not be able to do that and that might make them feel isolated and upset.Or children who have come from another country, their parents have a different cultural background to other people which mean the child will be raised differently and have different views, which can cause conflict among other children who have been brought up in the British culture. In other words, there was a general belief that by enumerating specific rights guaranteed to citizens, the implication would be that these were granted by the government instead of being natural rights that all individuals should have from birth. Further, by specifically naming rights, this would, in turn, mean that those not specifically named would not be protected. Others including Alexander Hamilton felt that protecting rights should be done at the state instead of the federal level.   Madison, however, saw the importance of adding the Bill of Rights and wrote the amendments that would eventually be added in order to assure ratification by the states.

The English Subject Essay English has been a big factor to my being as an educated person and as a Lasallian student. I take pride that I go to a university which offers an outstanding quality of English education. During the third term of my freshman year in college, I took up ENGLCOM which was a subject that was divided into reading and writing class. At first, I found the two boring because I thought that I was already confident with my stock knowledge about English Communication, so I intentionally did not attend the first few meetings. I just relaxed and did other useless things to kill time for my scheduled class. After summing up my free cuts, I decided to go to class so I could catch up with the lessons. I surprisingly found myself lost. I did not have any clue about what was going on or what was being discussed. I started asking for help from my classmates. I tried studying about all the things I missed in class, and I saw that what was being tackled that time was not clear to me even if I had already graduated from high school. I quickly found myself very interested in what I was dealing with. I learned that academic reading and writing are fun and interesting. I was able to improve my vocabulary and the way I write essays since we were taught about words which were unfamiliar, and we were also consistently being asked to write essays about certain topics. There were even times when we were taught how to properly analyse commercial ads and how to correctly write certain types of letters. All of my first impressions disappeared; I found the subject very interesting and from then on, I regularly went to class. During our writing class, we were asked to compose four essays: an extended definition essay, an argumentative essay, an entry and an exit essay. I honestly had difficulty in writing. My thoughts were not complete, and I had a lack of supporting ideas. While we were writing the entry essay, I had somewhat an easy time writing using my stock knowledge. Same thing happened with the exit essay. When it came to the argumentative and extended definition essays, I found myself having a very hard time. It was kind of difficult for me to think of a topic that I could argue and add more definition to. I had a few mistakes at first, but I was able to correct them by improving my vocabulary and researching for more supporting ideas. I also applied the lessons and techniques that were taught to us until it also became a habit for me to keep updated with all the things around me. I became patient and specific with my writing. It was really surprising to me how much more I needed to know. As the term ends, I can say that ENGLCOM has helped me improve my writing and reading skills. I became more proficient in writing, analyzing, reporting and reading. I will try to compile all my works so I could set them as guides as I keep up with my life in college when I start with thesis papers and other things that involve reading and writing. I met my objectives because of everything this subject had to offer. It was indeed a very fun and interesting experience of learning more about English Communication.

Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring and the Beginning of the Environmental Movement in the United States When Rachel Carson's Silent Spring was published in 1962, it generated a storm of controversy over the use of chemical pesticides. Miss Carson's intent in writing Silent Spring was to warn the public of the dangers associated with pesticide use. Throughout her book are numerous case studies documenting the harmful effects that chemical pesticides have had on the environment. Along with these facts, she explains how in many instances the pesticides have done more harm than good in eradicating the pests they were designed to destroy. In addition to her reports on pesticide use, Miss Carson points out that many of the long-term effects that these chemicals may have on the environment, as well as on humans, are still unknown. Her book as one critic wrote, "dealt pesticides a sharp blow" (Senior Scholastic 1962). The controversy sparked by Silent Spring led to the enactment of environmental legislation and the establishment of government agencies to better regulate the use of these chemic als. Miss Carson first became aware of the effects of chemical pesticides on the natural environment while working for the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries. Of particular concern to her was the government’s use of chemical pesticides such as DDT. She was familiar with early studies of DDT and knew of its dangers and lasting effects on the environment. According to Miss Carson, "the more I learned about the use of pesticides, the more appalled I became. I realized that here was the material for a book. What Holden Hates

Unavoidable occurrences draw his negative attention, which explains the numerous times he faces such experiences that he hates. All throughout the novel, it is clear that Holder hates his childhood; the division in society and the phoniness of people. From the beginning of the novel, Holder introduces his childhood in a way that does not seem to be of his liking. He states, â€Å"†¦ The first thing you'll probably want to know is where was born, and what my lousy childhood was like†¦ But don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth† (Slinger, 1).His disinterest in talking about his childhood and the act that he dubs it as â€Å"lousy' shows that his past is something he does not like to go further into since he does not like it. Additionally, he constantly refers back to Allis's death, which occurred when Holder was thirteen. Holder explains how bad it affects him by saying, â€Å"†¦ They were going to have my psychoanalysis and all, because I broke all the windows in the garage†¦ L slept in the garage the night he died† (39). Holder speaks highly of Allis's intelligence and innocence.Allele seems to be one of the few people Holder genuinely cares about and this signifies that Holder's loss greatly scars his holding. Lastly, it is revealed that Holder had pervert experiences when he was younger. In the incident with Mr.. Anatolian, Holder finds himself sweating and he knows he is because he experiences something pervert. He mentions that it has happened to him about twenty times as a kid. It is clearly indicative that Holder's childhood is scarred because he loses his own innocence, which explains his hatred of his younger years.Another concept that Holder hates is the division and inequality that society creates. He has a strong opinion about cliques. Holder acknowledges that â€Å"the basketball players stick together, the intellectuals and the members of the Book-of-the- Month club stick together† (13 1). Holder is bothered by the fact that people only follow the status quo only hang out with people that have the same interests. He hates the division this creates because he feels he cannot fit in with the groups because of the set boundaries. Secondly, Holder expresses how he hates money because it creates inequality among social groups.At the time he eats his breakfast at a diner, he says, â€Å"That depressed me. I hate it f I'm eating bacon and eggs or something and somebody else is only eating toast and coffee† (110). This shows that Holder hates the gap between rich and poor as it is unfair that people with money can afford to eat well when there are others who cannot afford to eat a hearty breakfast. Finally, Holder reveals that he hates how religion, specifically Catholicism, creates a boundary. He recalls a conversation he has with Louis Sanely, a Catholic.Holder states, â€Å"Then, after a while, right in the middle of the goddamn conversation, he asked me, †Å"Did you happen to notice where the Catholic hurt is in town, by any chance? † The thing was, you could tell by the way he asked me that he was trying to find out if was a Catholic. He really was† (1 12). From Holder's tone, this suggests that Louis' inquiry ruins the conversation solely because he hates how Catholics are more eager to converse with others if they are also Catholic. Essentially, it is thoroughly apparent that Holder hates that there is inequality and division in society.Finally, Holder's greatest hate in the world is the phoniness that comes from Others. All throughout the novel, Holder digresses about people he finds phony and the degree of hatred he has towards their phoniness. He talks about his older brother, DB, noting that he is a brilliant writer but hates that fact that he becomes a â€Å"prostitute† in Hollywood (2). Holder does not like that DB goes around looking like a big shot with his jaguar. He also does not like that DB wastes his talent in writing storyline for movies. This alludes to the next significant concept that Holder hates.Holder strongly dislikes movies in general and the people that love to see movies. He finds that movies are phony because it is just acting; the content of film is far from reality. Holder claims that people who enjoy movies are phony because they are just drawn to the superficial. Again, Holder demonstrates his hatred of phoniness through movies. The last aspect he hates about the phoniness Of people is the arrogance and essence of superiority that is evoked. Holder explains that Pence Prep â€Å"molds boys into splendid, clear-thinking young men who play polo† (2).However, he feels it is full of phoniness that Pence is feet with the idea that the school is full of polo players and hot shot students. In reality, no one plays polo and it is a standard school. Evidently, Holder demonstrates his hatred of phoniness through his numerous complaints and criticism of others. Thro ugh his failed connections and poor relationships with people, it is apparent that Holder has serious issues about society and his past. Holder becomes preoccupied with observing the phoniness and flaws of society; and the lousiness of his childhood because he genuinely hates these things.

Essex County is located in the North eastern part of new jersey. The history of Essex county dates back to 1666 when 30 families from Connecticut established settlement along the banks of Passaic river. Essex County was officially established in 1682 by east jersey legislature. Essex County is 129.631 square miles. The Geopolitical communities are designed by natural or human made boundaries (Maurer and Smith, 2009). It holds community safer for the residents and the governing body. Essex County is bordered by human made boundaries. The weather of the community fluctuates according to the seasons. The usual temperature throughout winter stays within 24 to 42 degrees Fahrenheit. In the summer, it hikes up, and ranges between at 68 to 85 Fahrenheit. Natural disasters like flood, blizzards, snowstorms, heavy rains hurricanes, power outrage, water shortage common here. The coun ty is made up of 22 municipalities which are widely diverse encompassing large inner-city communities. What steps are you taking to alert the community to educate them? The role of community health has changed greatly over the years. We play a very important role in the community for prevention of disease and promotion of health. They help in preventing disease by community teaching and help early detection of a problem. The greatest challenges we face has nothing to do with the season of the year, it is with hospitals discharging patients more quickly to shorten the length of stay and the acuity of the patients in the community are much higher which necessitates the clinicians that are more skilled than ever. As of now they have to take care of patients with tracheostomy, peg tube feeding, long term chest tubes, nephrostomy tubes and ventilators and administer antibiotics. The job of the community health nurse is educate the family members how to take care of their loved one at home, and what to do when there is emergency there is always redundancy what to do when there is emergency. She gave the example of Hurricane sandy when they had to go visiting homes of patients who were oxygen dependent, ventilator patients and patients with special electronic beds and make sure they had electricity and if not they had to be moved to acute care center. For me that was the most  challenging thing I faced in the community. This transcends any season. At the moment it is season change and we have to make sure our homebound citizens and senior citizens for getting flu vaccines and get them ready for winter making sure they have access to heat and hot water. Now we are also educating the community about Ebola. What ethnic groups do you deal with? Essex County is made up of very diverse race and culture. There is no single dominant culture or race. We have African- American, White-Americans, Hispanic, and Asians. They visit all communities in the county; they have escorts who are from the community who helps her when she goes home visiting. The only home they are not allowed to go is if they see anyone actively doing drugs, or drinking for safety reasons. What spiritual resources are available? The community health nurse has to respect every religion, culture and their way of life and traditions as long it doesn’t cause any harm to the individual. Essex County has churches of every denomination, temples, synagogues and mosques which are easily accessible. What are the five biggest health issues pertaining to Essex County? They also have program called† what’s in your bag† where they collaborate with the pharmacist in the community check the prescription medications the patients are taking and make sure there is no duplications for example Norvasc and Amlodipine. They update the list of the medication they are taking which helps when they go to the doctors or hospital. They also assist in the community in proper disposable of unused and expired medicine. The nurse also teaches how to store medications especially narcotics. They also help in the immunizations of seniors especially flu and pneumonia and preschool children. The school nurse is in charge of making sure the school age kids are up-to-date with immunization. Are the health resources adequate in Essex County? She believes there are enough health providers; there are many hospitals, emergent day care centers and nurse practitioners all are very easily accessible. The problem is not enough resources  she believes people not making use of these resources. There are many individuals with no insurance but they are never denied care. Essex County also has discount prescription card which gives 20% on prescription medication. What is the role of a community health in regarding to mental health? She is not specialized in this field but they do have separate division who takes care of these individual this team consists of behavioral health nurses and therapist. They do assess the patients if they need these services and refer them accordingly. Essex County has a big psychiatry hospital whose mission is to provide evidence-based care to promote patient recovery and return to community. Diet and Exercise Obesity rates have doubled among children and tripled in adolescents and adults. Also our community has very high rate of fast food restaurant. The main of community health nurse is educating the community on healthy diet and the importance of exercise. Our community has lots of parks and open spaces, sports center which are well equipped but under used. There also community swimming pools. The community health nurses do not organize any activities in regarding to exercise, but the county has many such program which begin in spring with cherry blossom festival, they conduct marathons, bike riding competitions’ and hikes and camp outs during summer of which Barnabas health is a big sponsor. Are they any nutrition deficiency in the community? Does the community provide safe drinking water? Most common problem are Vitamin D deficiency. There are many communities which live below poverty and many are homeless. But there are many organizations which help them like soup kitchens, food stamps, meals on wheels for home bound citizens, churches and many communities. Schools provide subsidized rate or free in some cases breakfast and lunches to the children. Farmers markets and community garden where one can grow fresh vegetables and fruits in summer. Tap water is safe for  drinking which checked periodically and report of which is sent to all residents. 11. What is the role of a Community health nurse in relation to environmental issues such as heat assistance, cooling stations, pest control, waste disposal, and common air contaminants? Essex County has an environmental nurse that follows the Human Health Hazard Ordinance. This ordinance is for dealing with health hazards that are occurring on the outside of the home and could potentially affect other members of the community. They work closely with town and municipality workers. They inspect the homes for rats or any insect’s bed bugs. They also observe how the garbage is being disposed. Overall the nurse’s job is to see if the resident is safe in their home. She also checks if the patient is oxygen dependent there is nobody in the house smoking, from individual perspective she also checks if they have working fire alarms. They check to see if they have provision for heat in winter. There is very good waste management system in the county. They have garbage and recycle bins in all public spaces. The environments hazardous waste and electronic waste is being collected by the county once in three months from the community or it can be taken to the disposable center by the resident. The community nurse plays no role in this. 12. What kind of sexuality programs are available e.g. growth and development, STD and AIDS education, contraception options. Is there sufficient access to birth control, support groups for pregnant women and new parents? What are the statistics for birth rates, abortion and miscarriage? Essex County works with Planned Parenthood, the pregnancy crisis hot-line, the Family Resource Center and Early Head Start programs. There is disparity among child birth and teen pregnancy. Low and low birth weight among African-American babies born is higher than other racial/ ethnic group. Teen pregnancy is more in lower socio-economic groups. The school nurses provide sex education to the kids from  elementary. There are many programs for maternal and child health. They support them and get necessary help needed in caring the baby and themselves. 13. How do you assist in disaster management planning? Are there other agencies you work with? Essex County nurses work with police, fire and EMS from all the cities and towns in the county. The nurses participate in disaster management drill a few times a year. Our other role in disaster management is to keep a list of personnel that may be needed to help when a disaster occurs. The list is reviewed and updated yearly. This list includes: Long-term care facilities Veterinarian Clinics and hospital Schools Churches Summer camps Parish nurses Home care agencies Water and energy facilities such a Alliant Energy Power Station† 14. What are the Cognitive/ perceptual level of the community? The Essex County is home to large ethnic/ racial group. The main language is English but there is large number of residents about 20% of who don’t speak English. The community nurses use language line to communicate with the patient or somebody from the family who knows the language acts as the translator. Essex County is home to five public and five private colleges. There is a great push to change the education system and get the children back to school. The graduate rate is 64% for the county which is low comparing to other counties in the state. 15. What is the self-perception / self- concept in the community? Are the residents happy? I don’t know how to answer that. You know we both live in the same county there is big disparities how the economic wealth is distributed. There are large urban areas with poor and minority population, a nd some below poverty level. The county is doing a lot to make sure all  residents have equal opportunities. Like in the library they have activities for senior citizens; they also have activities for school age and preschoolers. They play a big role ]in summer reading program. The county also has free coaching in summer for sports activities like tennis and football. Each community in summer organizes movie night. There are equal opportunities for all. In certain communities in the county the violent crime rate and homicide rate is high compared to other counties in the state. There is also big problem with substance abuse. Due to which emergency room visits for substance abuse are high in the county. The families living in these areas face dangers which causes stress. Role and relationship The people of the community continue to maintain respectful and healthy relationships with neighbors. The children are cooperative with one another and maintain respect towards elders and higher authorities, such as teachers. Local residents aid the older residents, especially during snow storm. The local police and firefighters offer innumerable services for the community. We ended our interview by her saying there are many services available in the community which the residents are not aware of.
